Abstract
There are many issues and implications regarding access to consistent healthy meals for students attending public schools in the United States. The country at large faces challenges and constraints in providing healthful food services for hungry and/or malnourished children. Needless to mention, the daily impacts that lack of access to nutritious meals places on a child and their family. This paper provides a brief history and current status of the public school meal programs. The emphasis is put on steps being taken to combat childhood hunger in the United States (U.S.) and thus provide access to consistent affordable healthy meals. The paper also addresses the implications of accessible healthy meals. Suggestions for action and advocacy in support of consistent affordable healthy meals for students are offered and encouraged.
